Roadmap
What we're working on
An honest view of what's happening now, next and later. No dates until they're real. Community requests that are planned, in progress or shipped appear here automatically.
Now
Testing with real Garmin units
Send and track import on real USB mass-storage and MTP units. So far tested against simulated devices only.
Testing with more real BaseCamp libraries
Import of many real-world libraries, including track times from BaseCamp's TrackSegments data (currently experimental).
App Store launch preparation
In-app purchase setup, store listing and screenshots, and review.
Next
App Store launch
PlaceVault 1.0 on the Mac App Store. No date yet — join the waitlist for one email when it's out.
More map regions
Ready-made offline map, routing and place-search packs for more regions in the catalog (today: a Liechtenstein demo plus extracting any region yourself).
Performance with very large libraries
Measure and tune map performance with 100,000-item libraries.
Full VoiceOver pass
Test every window with VoiceOver and fix what we find.
Later
Export back to BaseCamp (.gdb)
A .gdb writer exists but stays hidden until files are verified in real BaseCamp.
CloudKit sync
Today a library in iCloud Drive syncs between Macs; CloudKit would sync without a shared folder.
Trip planning tools
Multi-day trip planning, area avoidance for routing, and a device-calculation comparison view.
Custom POIs (.gpi) and custom maps
Send POI files and KMZ custom maps to Garmin units.
More map layers and outputs
Stacking several offline layers, GeoPDF output and Look Around.
More languages
The app is prepared for translation; English and British English ship first.
Shipped
End-to-end testing on a real Mac
The full app scenario (import, edit, send to a simulated unit, export, relaunch) and 138 real sample files pass.
Layout and accessibility audit
Window sizing, light and dark appearance and Send to GPS warnings reworked.
getplacevault.com and the waitlist
This site, the waitlist, and now the public roadmap and feature requests.
Known gaps
- zūmo .trip files. Not planned. The format has no public specification, so PlaceVault sends GPX with via and shaping points, which zūmo units import as trips.
- BirdsEye imagery, Garmin .img map rendering and device map updates. Not supported. Garmin .img maps are recognised but not drawn.
