Import & migration
Bring a whole library over in one go, with its structure intact.
Rescue Assistant
FreeFinds BaseCamp libraries and backups and Google Earth Pro My Places on your Mac (after you grant folder access) and imports each into its own folder.
BaseCamp library import
FreeReads a BaseCamp database folder, a single .gdb file or a .Backup archive directly — no BaseCamp needed. Folders and lists, colours, symbols, notes, addresses and categories (as tags) come across; an item in several lists stays one item.
BaseCamp GPX merge
FreeMerge a GPX export of the same items from BaseCamp to add track times and elevations, via/shaping point roles and calculated route geometry.
BaseCamp track times from TrackSegments
FreeExperimentalRecovers per-point times and elevations from BaseCamp's undocumented TrackSegments data when the match is confident; otherwise use the GPX merge.
Google Earth Pro My Places, KML and KMZ
FreeNested folders, shared styles, polygons with holes, gx:Track, ground overlays with embedded images, HTML descriptions, Regions/LOD and tours.
GPX 1.1 with Garmin extensions
FreeDisplay colours, route geometry, via/shaping points, and heart rate, cadence and temperature on track points.
FIT, TCX, CSV, GeoJSON and Shapefile
FreeActivities from FIT and TCX, CSV waypoints with automatic delimiter and any coordinate format, GeoJSON, and zipped Shapefiles (UTM and Web Mercator reprojected).
Geocaching files
FreeGroundspeak LOC files and geocache details in GPX.
Geotagged photos
FreeTurn a folder of geotagged JPEG or HEIC photos into waypoints with thumbnails.
Many ways in
FreeImport menu and toolbar, drag and drop onto the window, Finder Open With, paste KML or GPX, and the Services menu.
KML network links
FreeOptionally fetch linked KML/KMZ with view-based refresh; can be turned off in Settings.
Library & editing
A library that stays organised, however big it gets.
Folders and lists
FreeNested folders with show/hide checkboxes and counts; an item can live in several folders, like BaseCamp lists.
Search and smart lists
FreeSearch names, notes and tags with filters such as kind:track, tag:hut or folder:Alps, and save searches as smart lists.
Inspector
FreeEdit name, colour (including the 16 device colours), symbol, notes, tags, description and extended data; coordinates in any format.
Batch editing
FreeChange colour, device colour, tags, name prefix and visibility for many items at once.
Coordinates your way
FreeDecimal degrees, degrees-minutes, DMS, UTM and MGRS — shown and typed.
Undo, autosave and backups
FreeUndo and redo for every edit, autosave, hourly snapshots, manual backups and a library integrity check.
Library location and iCloud Drive
FreeKeep the library where you like, including iCloud Drive; changes from another Mac are detected and merged, or you choose.
Export and share
FreeExport GPX, KML, KMZ, GeoJSON or CSV, a folder tree as GPX files, or a full library backup; share GPX or KMZ via Mail, Messages or AirDrop; copy as KML or GPX.
Maps & offline
Plan with or without a connection.
Apple Maps base maps
FreeStandard, satellite, hybrid and 3D terrain when you are online.
Offline vector maps
FreeExtract just your region from a worldwide OpenStreetMap build (Protomaps), drawn in a light or dark topo style with labels.
Pack catalog
FreeDownload ready-made map, routing and place-search packs from the PlaceVault catalog or a catalog URL you choose.
Raster tile downloads
FreeDownload an area from USGS topo and imagery or your own tile server template, or add MBTiles and PMTiles files.
Elevation, hillshade, contours and slope
FreeOffline elevation from GeoTIFF (e.g. Copernicus, SRTM), HGT or terrain tiles, with hillshade, contour lines and slope-angle shading.
Grids and readouts
FreeLat/long, UTM and MGRS grid, scale bar, and the coordinate and elevation under the pointer.
Drawing and measuring
FreeAdd waypoints, draw areas and tracks, reshape areas corner by corner, and measure distances, areas and circles.
Find Place
FreeSearch addresses, places and coordinates offline with a place pack, or with Apple Maps when online; save results as waypoints.
Big libraries
FreeOnly what's in view is drawn, and pins cluster when there are many.
Ground overlays and tours
FreeImage overlays from KMZ files on the map, and playback of Google Earth Pro tours.
Routing
Draw routes for free; road and trail routing is part of Pro.
Draw and edit routes
FreeDraw routes with via and shaping points, drag the line to reshape, insert or delete points. Without Pro, legs are straight lines.
Route between selected places
FreeConnect selected waypoints in your order or an optimised order (follows roads and trails with Pro).
Offline road and trail routing
ProCar, motorcycle (curvy roads), bicycle and foot routing from routing packs, with fastest, shortest or curvy, and avoid tolls, motorways, unpaved roads or ferries.
Apple Maps routing fallback
ProOptionally use Apple Maps directions when online and no offline pack covers the route.
Directions
ProTurn-by-turn directions, travel time and distance for calculated routes, and printable route directions.
Build your own routing pack
FreeBuild a routing and place-search pack for any region from an OpenStreetMap extract (.osm.pbf). Routing with it needs Pro.
GPS devices
Get routes onto your unit and tracks back off it.
Send to GPS
ProSend waypoints, routes and tracks as GPX to USB mass-storage and MTP Garmin units, with colours and via/shaping points kept.
Pre-send checks
ProGrouped warnings before sending: duplicate point names the unit may merge, legs it will recalculate, and zūmo route limits — with one-click fixes.
Import tracks from your unit
FreeRead current and archived tracks from mass-storage units, or tracks from MTP devices.
Device housekeeping
FreeSee connected units in the sidebar, eject them, and get a warning when Garmin Express is holding the device.
Tracks & tools
The track tools BaseCamp users rely on.
Profiles and statistics
FreeElevation, grade and speed profiles that follow your pointer on the map; distance, moving time, speeds, ascent and descent.
Fill elevations
FreeFill missing track and route elevations from offline elevation data.
Track editing
FreeFilter or simplify tracks, split, join and reverse, edit individual track points, and convert route ⇄ track.
Project Waypoint
FreeCreate a waypoint at a bearing and distance from another.
Geotag photos
FreeMatch photos to track times and optionally write the position into the photo files.
Print and export maps
ProPrint or save PDF/PNG maps up to 300 dpi from offline maps or Apple Maps, with title, legend, north arrow, lat/long/UTM/MGRS grid and scale.
3D mouse support
FreeBetaPan, zoom, rotate and tilt the map with a SpaceMouse-class controller; not yet tested on every model.
